Contact us to volunteer

We are a volunteer-led charity with a positive attitude. We expect our staff and the public to treat one another with politeness and mutual respect. Nobody should be subjected to violent, threatening or abusive behaviour. Anybody falling below this expectation will be asked to leave.

Penistone Agricultural Show returns to the Penistone Showground on Saturday 12 September 2026, the second Saturday in September as it always has been since the show was established in 1853. Said to be the largest one-day agricultural show in the north of England, it has run almost every year for more than 150 shows, drawing visitor numbers above 10,000 in some years and pulling in crowds from across the country.

What sets Penistone apart is that it is run, top to bottom, by volunteers from the local community. There is no corporate machine behind it, just a small army of farmers, smallholders, craftspeople and neighbours who put on a remarkable day of livestock, horticulture, country pursuits and family entertainment.

The showground covers the full breadth of agricultural and rural life. Cattle, sheep, pigs, goats and horses fill the livestock rings. Poultry and eggs, horticulture, homecraft and handicraft all have their own competitive sections. Add to that a companion dog show, vintage vehicle displays, hundreds of trade stands, craft stalls, food stands and a dedicated food hall, and there is more than enough to fill a full day out.

The show opens early in the morning and runs through to early evening, with gates closing around 6pm. Tickets are available in advance through the Penistone Show website, with discounted prices for early bookings.
