Forest of Bowland charity clay shoot raises more than £23,000 for testicular cancer awareness
A charity clay shoot held in the Forest of Bowland raised more than £23,500 for testicular cancer awareness after attracting hundreds of supporters from across the rural community.
The event, organised by the Forest of Bowland Moorland Group saw around 200 people take part throughout the day, raising an impressive £23,532 for the charity Oddballs.
More than just a fundraising event, the day brought together gamekeepers, farmers, beaters, pickers-up and others from the local land management community, many of whom have been personally affected by testicular cancer.
Organisers said the event provided an opportunity to encourage conversations about a disease that often goes undiscussed, while supporting an important cause.
Natalie Herd, coordinator of the Forest of Bowland Moorland Group, said: “We're overwhelmed by the support. To raise £23,532 from one day shows just how much this cause means to our community. Thank you to everyone who took part.”
The shooting lines and simulated drives were provided by Driven Clay Co Lancashire, whose team praised the generosity of those involved.
A spokesperson said: “It literally takes my breath away to see so much generosity, commitment and perseverance by the teams. Driven Clay Co is immensely proud to support FBMG in raising awareness and funds for such an important problem.”
Funds raised will go to Oddballs, a charity dedicated to raising awareness of testicular cancer and encouraging men to check themselves regularly.
The organisers also thanked a number of local businesses for sponsorship including Fairclough & Woodruff, Adam Carr Builders, J. G. Paxtons & Sons, Morley Plant Hire & Haulage, Guy Machinery, GM ATV, KB Electrical, Midgley Motor Cars, Foxholes Country Pursuits and Davis & Bowring.
