Gamekeepers Step in to Repair School Fence After Storm Damage

A North Pennines estate has come to the aid of a local rural school, with its gamekeepers stepping in to replace a fence that had been brought down in recent storms.

The school got in touch after hearing about similar work the estate had carried out for other schools nearby, asking whether the keepers could spare the time and expertise to put things right. They were happy to oblige, and made short work of the job.

For many of the keepers involved, the project carried particular meaning. Several had attended the school themselves as children, while others now have sons and daughters there. The connection between the estate's workforce and the wider community runs deep, and moments like these underline just how rooted gamekeepers are in the places they look after.

It is the latest example of upland estates and their staff quietly supporting the rural communities around them, whether through practical help with repairs and maintenance, fundraising for local causes, or hosting school visits and educational sessions. Such contributions are part of the everyday rhythm of life on the moors.

Once again, the gamekeeping community has shown what it means to pull together for the places it calls home.
